REALIZATION OF A DREAM

Bhamlada is a small village in the Himalayan foot hills in northern India. When I came here about twenty four years ago, and bought a plot of land, I had a dream of building an art center of international level there. Electricity connection and water supply at home was a distant dream too. Coming from a big bustling city like Calcutta, to settle in an underdeveloped place in the rough woodlands and to cherish the dream of constructing an art center would have seemed like a wild utopia or madness to most, but not to me. Slowly, but with a lot of determination my mother Dr. Kalyani Pramanik and I build up the studio, a library and even an art gallery, where I held several exhibitions. From this place, major programmes of Art were taken to England and twice to France. Prabal Pramanik's Academy of Arts works to co-ordinate the intellectual activities with the general masses. I believe that no work of cultural development is effective unless the benefits reach the masses. A mighty river may start from a trickle of water in the mountain, just so this effort may lead to a significant flow that will help to change the world we live in.
